Should we celebrate 'Teacher's Day'?

Hello Lovely People,
It's your homeboy 'Guru Bhai', aka Nikhil here.

To begin with, why Sept 5 ? 5th Sept commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a Bharat Ratna recipient and the first Vice President and second President of independent India. The biggest wish I received today was when my student wished me 'Happy teachers day'.
Now, what is a teacher? Google says someone who teaches, especially in schools. I feel a teacher is someone who makes you think or rather forces you to think, moulds your life, has a lasting impact in shaping your future. A good teacher is someone where his student approaches him, even before approaching his/her parents. A good parent creates a good family, a good teacher creates a good society. I strongly believe that nation building can be only be done by good teachers as much as it can be done by good leaders. If you ask me, a teacher decides whether you'd be a Kalam or a Kasab.

My parents still tell me stories of their teachers, how they inspired them, how they ably supported the weaker ones, how they prepared them for every walk of life. They actually believe in the verse 'गुरु साक्षात परब्रह्म:'. Honestly speaking, our generation doesn't remember or admire our teachers as much as we should or rather enjoy memes on them? Why? Generation is spoiled? May be, but then there's other side to the coin as well. Education system lost its sanity when it became business.Tuition classes turned it into a rat race rather than a place wherein the weaker lot is motivated further. Also, lack of visionary teachers, whom we could look up to. Pardon my audacity, but most of our teachers just completed the syllabus.

Before i wrap up let me share with you some funny Hinglish lines from our Not-So teachers:

  • This assignment is having I think everybody (I think she wanted us to 'Rearrange the jumbled words')
  • Don't sit in the black (Yeah, dark)
  • Who is having this compass? I replied, Ma'am You (She actually wanted to ask, Whose compass is this? My Bad)

How much ever I write on our teachers ability, I must admit we were scoundrels, period. A professor had punished me and my 4 other friends to teach a chapter the following day.

Next day, all of us did his look alike hair cut, dressed like him and taught the lesson standing on crooked legs like him and of-course with deliberately spoken incorrect English. We all still have a laugh about it.

Really lucky are the ones who find a good Guruji, others become Ganesh Gaitonde, drink Gochi and say 'Aham Brahmasmi'. Off the topic, but please download and watch the highly underrated comedy film on a teacher's life, 'Do Dooni Char'.
